Kraaifontien Industrial has long been recognised as the trucking Mecca of the Western Cape due to its prime location, and logistical position between Paarl and Cape Town providing immediate access to the N1 highway.

The local train station is on the main line from Cape Town to Paarl and Kraaifontien, and the residential area is within easy walking distance from this expanding industrial hub.

Future developments and proposals

Kraaifontein has been ear marked as an area of major development within the next 10 years. There are a number of proposals put forward to the government.

Submissions include the following:

  • New residential area consisting of 30 000 homes to be built to the west of the N1 opposite Kraaifontein Industries
  • New Light industrial and commercial rezoning and development to the east of highway just before the off ramp heading to Cape Town
  • New bypass linking N1 to N2 via Brackenfell, Stickland and Blackheath
  • Rezoning of agricultural land to industrial between Kraaifontein and Blackheath
